Terms of Use

The rules that apply when you use ScoreInspect.

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of the ScoreInspect website and service. Please read them carefully. By creating an account or using ScoreInspect, you agree to these Terms, to our Privacy Policy, and to our Cancellation and Refund Policy.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By accessing or using ScoreInspect, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the service.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use ScoreInspect.

An account is required to upload and process scores. You may sign in with an email address and password or with a supported third-party sign-in provider, such as Google. You agree to:

  • provide accurate information and keep it up to date;
  • keep your password and sign-in credentials confidential;
  • use only one account per person, unless we agree otherwise;
  • notify us promptly through the contact page if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization.

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

3. The service

ScoreInspect converts printed sheet music in PDF, PNG, or JPG files into editable MusicXML. The service recognizes the musical notation on each page, lets you review and correct the result in your browser, and exports it as an MXL file.

ScoreInspect is currently offered as a beta. Features, limits, and availability may change, and we may add, modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time. We will try to give reasonable notice of changes that materially reduce what a paid plan includes.

4. Plans, limits, and payment

ScoreInspect offers a Free plan and a paid Pro subscription. The page allowance, maximum file size, maximum pages per document, and other features of each plan are described on the pricing page. We may adjust plan limits to protect the reliability of the service.

The Pro plan is a subscription billed in advance at the start of each billing period and renews automatically until you cancel. Payments are processed by our third-party payment processor; we do not receive or store your full card details. By subscribing, you authorize us, through our payment processor, to charge the applicable fee and any applicable taxes to your selected payment method on each renewal.

We may change subscription prices. Any price change will apply only from your next billing period after we notify you, and you may cancel before it takes effect.

Cancellations, refunds, and how processed pages are counted are described in our Cancellation and Refund Policy.

5. Your content

“Your content” means the files you upload and the results generated from them, including recognized notation, the corrections you make, and exported MusicXML files.

You keep all rights you have in your content. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, copy, process, and transmit your content only as necessary to provide the service to you. This license ends when your content is deleted.

You represent that you own the content you upload or have all rights and permissions needed to upload it and have it converted, and that doing so does not infringe the copyright or other rights of any third party. Many published scores and editions are protected by copyright. Using ScoreInspect does not give you any right to copy, distribute, or perform a work that you are not otherwise entitled to use.

Uploaded files and generated results are temporary. They are not published, shared, or added to a library, and they are scheduled for automatic deletion approximately one hour after upload. You can delete them sooner from the service. You are responsible for downloading any exported file you want to keep before it expires.

We do not use your content to train artificial intelligence or machine-learning models. ScoreInspect uses conventional optical music recognition and does not rely on generative AI.

6. Recognition accuracy

Optical music recognition is never perfect. Results depend on scan quality, notation density, layout, and many other factors, and may contain missing, extra, or incorrect symbols. ScoreInspect is designed primarily for printed or digitally engraved music; handwritten, damaged, or unusual scores may not be recognized reliably.

You are responsible for reviewing and verifying every result before relying on it. Pages that are processed successfully count toward your allowance even when the recognition is imperfect.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • upload content that you do not have the right to use, or that is unlawful, malicious, or infringes the rights of others;
  • upload files containing malware or files designed to disrupt, overload, or exploit the service;
  • circumvent or attempt to circumvent plan limits, page allowances, rate limits, or other usage restrictions, including by creating multiple accounts;
  • access the service through automated scripts, bots, or scrapers, or use it in a way that places an unreasonable load on our infrastructure;
  • attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service, to other accounts, or to files that do not belong to you, or probe, scan, or test its vulnerabilities without our permission;
  • decompile, reverse engineer, copy, or create derivative works of the website or service, except where this restriction is prohibited by law;
  • resell, sublicense, or provide the service to third parties as part of your own product without our written permission;
  • use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.

8. Our intellectual property

The ScoreInspect website, software, interface, design, name, logo, and other materials we provide are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use the service. No other rights are granted.

If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them freely without any obligation to you.

9. Third-party services

The service relies on third-party providers, including our payment processor and optional sign-in with Google. Your use of those services may also be subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services that we do not control.

10. Suspension and termination

You may stop using ScoreInspect at any time and delete your account from the account page. Deleting your account immediately cancels any active subscription, as described in our Cancellation and Refund Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your access, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms, if your use creates risk or possible legal exposure for us or for other users, if required by law, or if we discontinue the service. Where we terminate a paid subscription without cause, we will refund the unused portion of the current billing period.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination, including those on your content, intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification, will survive.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that recognition results will be accurate or complete.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the service.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or the service is limited to the amount you paid us for the service during the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some of these limitations may not apply to you.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, losses, liabilities, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of your content, your use of the service, or your violation of these Terms or of the rights of any third party.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the service before they take effect. Your continued use of ScoreInspect after the changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, you must stop using the service and may cancel your subscription.

15. General

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Cancellation and Refund Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent; we may transfer ours in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

16. Contact

If you have questions about these Terms, please reach us through the contact page.
